Welcome
We are the Blue Valley High School Tungsten Tigers, a First FTC robotics team established in 2021.
About UsOur Robot: “Tyler Jack”
Powerless Hanging
Our robot features two hooks on each side of the robot, connected to motors, in order to hoist itself up in the air and remain suspended when it's no longer under power.
Drone Launcher
We designed a 3-D printed launcher that uses a sliding cartridge to launch the drone. We also made it so that the launcher has an adjustable angle, allowing for compact and safe storage during the rest of the match.
Touch and Grab
Our robot features a quick touch and grab system by our rapid intake and claw output system.
Sensor Systems
In order to pack our bot with as much functionality as possible, we use almost every available slot for an array of sensors, servos, and motors. In total, we have 5 different types of sensors, 11 servos, 8 motors, and an LED light strip. Each one of these parts serves its own unique purpose and makes our bot better and more efficient.
First Lego League
Engineering, from monumental infrastructure to nanoscale innovations, is the bedrock of modern society, driving technological advancement and addressing real-world challenges. A multi-year longitudinal study from Brandeis University demonstrates how FIRST programs are critical in driving engagement in STEM fields.
According to the study, 81 percent of FIRST alumni eventually major in a STEM-based field, with over 75 percent of those students majoring in engineering or computer science. That is almost 20 percent higher than the comparison group of students from the same schools, in the same science and technology classes, who did not participate in FIRST programs. Furthermore, 48 percent of female FIRST alumni go on to major in STEM, which was 3 times greater than the comparison group.
The main issue within our community is the lack of free opportunities for young minds to collaborate and engage with STEM-based disciplines, so we set out to recreate the space where we first explored the subject by creating 2 FLL teams at our local middle schools, the Platinum and Titanium Cubs.
Trunk Or Treat
To bring together the greater community, we hosted and ran a Trunk-Or-Treat, which is an annual tradition our team started in 2022. During Trunk-Or-Treat, children wear costumes and learn about high school activities as they receive candy from dressed-up high schoolers from the decorated trunks.
During the 2023 Trunk-Or-Treat, over 20 clubs and sports participated, and since it was extremely cold outside, we moved the Trunk-Or-Treat indoors in our school's gym. Because each club brought candy, there were over 1000+ pieces of leftover candy, which we donated.
This two-hour event reached over 250 children as they explored the various tables indoors upon greeting our Tiger Mascot, worn by team member Levi.
